A Facebook friend reported from the ASU+GSV conference that Secretary of Education Linda McMahon referred to the abbreviation of artificial intelligence commonly known as AI (A-eye) as A1 (A-one). I found this hard to believe, but there now is video to prove it. It’s particularly astonishing as 30 seconds earlier she refers to artificial intelligence properly. And to boot, she was marveling at a school district that was going to provide A1 training to preK students. I am intrigued by generative AI as much as the next ed tech nerd, but I don’t yet see a place yet in early grade levels. My current thinking is that kids need to learn foundational skills before they can apply AI in creative, productive, and ethical ways. It just doesn’t seem developmentally appropriate to be moving in that direction. Am being a Luddite here?
At any rate, here’s the clip of Linda McMahon speaking at the conference.
